New TV Show: Bates Motel
September 21, 2014
Relatively new, that is.
Marathoned the first season of Bates Motel these past few days. It’s a prequel to the movie, Psycho (1960) and oh my god you guyssss. I’ve always loved slasher movies but this show made me understand the killer’s point of view as well. I have a copy of the original movie but I haven’t watched it yet. I’m planning to finish the entire second season of the show first.
Bates Motel, on the other hand, tells the story of a young Norman Bates and his over protective mother. They moved to White Pine Bay to start over a new life. The pilot episode is intense, it makes you want to watch more! It’s pretty weird that it was set in modern time though it was supposed to be a prequel. But I really don’t mind.
*sigh* so cute!!! That smirk! And he’s BRITISH COME ON!
Freddie Highmore is THE perfect Norman Bates. I don’t know if there’s anyone else that can portray this role as perfectly as he did! He is awkward, but in a charming way. Unlike Chloe Moretz in the new Carrie, who didn’t resemble a weird teenager at all, Freddie is GREÀT. He had the looks, the body, the voice, and the mannerisms. I skimmed through the Psycho movie and it’s crazy how you can really imagine him as the young Anthony Hopkins! Gosh, this boy. I have no words. ♥
The other characters were amazing as well, especially Vera Farmiga as Norma, Norman’s mother. (Very creative names there tho) She’s this animàted, complex character. For the first few eps, I have this feeling that she might be crazy but as the story unfolds, the more amazing her character becomes.
Then there’s these two teenage girls, Emma and Bradley, portrayed by Olivia Cooke and Nicola Peltz, respectively. I honestly don’t get why Bradley’s the most popular and prettiest girl in school. She’s totally an Avril Lavigne duplicate, I’m With You days. Haha. Emma is actually the prettier one, but I find her so, so annoying, I didn’t even care if she’s sick!!! I hope her character can have major developments in the second season.
And then there’s Dylan, played by Max Theriot aka my favorite character (next to Norman, of course), who is obviously the ONLY sane character in this series. Haha. He’s the cute boy from The Pacifier! And we’re almost the same age!!! WHAT. Norman’s relationship with Dylan is one of the best things from the show. Also, Dylan’s relationship with Norma is believable and touching, I can’t wait to see more. I understand how people reacted when the prequel introduced that Norman had a half-brother. They were so used to Norman being the only kid and Mama’s boy. I guess that’s what made the story interesting even more.
Here are pictures of the main cast of Bates Motel. Like Penny Dreadful, ten episodes are not enough! I am so looking forward to Season 2! I just can’t stop watching and I feel like if I don’t stop talking now I might spoil everything. LOL.
Overall, really great season. Very promising. And you definitely wouldn’t want to miss the superb acting in this show 🙂 Watch it now!!! 😀
